In the past, only participating in the pilot schools had the option of notifying primary and secondary contacts of a student whenever this student was linked to an account in PushCoin. After a successful roll-out of this feature we are happy to announce its availability to all schools. Starting August 10th, all parents and guardians will be notified whenever their students are linked with a PushCoin account. This is now the default behavior for all schools in PushCoin.
Why this change
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the confidentiality of student information. FERPA requires that educational agencies and institutions maintain direct control over the authorized recipient’s maintenance and use of the student information as described here and here. Acting in the spirit of the law, PushCoin now requires that all guardians on record are notified whenever a user account in PushCoin links to a student, giving parents and guardians the opportunity to review and alert PushCoin Support or the school of any potential violations.
