In the past, the system limited fee exceptions to charges previously assigned to students. Today you can add a fee exception even if a fee has not yet been assigned. The only requirement is that the fee is present in the “SIS pending fees” for that student.

The old behavior of adding a fee exception to an already assigned fee continues to work.

Here is a scenario when this new functionality may come in handy: you are reviewing the “SIS assigned fees” under Billing and you spot a situation where a student should be discounted a new fee. You can now go to the student’s profile, choose the “Fee exceptions” tab, and add a fee exception to a new fee. DO NOT approve the SIS pending fees just yet. Simply wait for the next iteration of the fees to be evaluated (up to 24 hrs), verify your fee exception took effect by confirming the charge amount, then approve the pending fees.
